RNS Pre-University, Channasandra, Bengaluru, is one of the exemplary ventures born from the philanthropic vision of Late Dr. R N Shetty—a renowned entrepreneur, educationist, and humanitarian.

Born on August 15, 1928, in Murudeshwar, Bhatkal Taluk, Uttar Kannada,    Dr. R N Shetty was a man of integrity, devotion, and relentless effort. His deep concern for humanity and tireless dedication led him to scale great heights across diverse fields such as engineering, industry, education, healthcare, hospitality, power generation, automobile dealerships, religion, and spirituality.

He is credited with transforming challenges into opportunities and played a pivotal role in placing the town of Murudeshwar on the national map by constructing the world’s second tallest statue of Lord Shiva and a majestic tower, now iconic landmarks and one of the major tourist attractions.

As a true humanitarian, Dr. Shetty extended his efforts to offer social, medical, and educational assistance to the countless underprivileged. Committed to uplifting rural communities, he initiated several educational programs across Karnataka. Under his leadership, numerous primary and high schools,            Pre-University Colleges, First Grade Colleges, Nursing Colleges, and an Engineering College were established, offering quality education to thousands of  students.

In recognition of his exceptional service and visionary work, Dr. R N Shetty received several prestigious honors: 

• Rajyotsava Award by the Government of Karnataka (2004)

• Visvesvaraya Memorial Award (2004)

• KASSIA Kaigarika Ratna Award (2006)

• Honorary Doctorate from Bangalore University (2009)

Despite his many accolades, Dr. R N Shetty remained a humble and grounded individual, remembered fondly as a ‘Karmayogi’- a man who lived and worked with purpose and integrity. His legacy continues to inspire generations through the enduring impact of his service and vision.
